The Southwest Florida Symphony has earned the Guidestar Exchange Seal.
The Symphony and its family of affiliates are committed to sharing their passion for music with the entire Southwest Florida community through continuous improvement of the artistic quality, programmatic breadth and cultural relevance of our concert programs and presentations. We are determined to accomplish this mission by creating an infrastructure of educational programs, institutional support and personal participation that we can build upon with pride in the 21st Century.
Each year the Orchestra presents a series of five Masterworks concerts featuring music from the great symphonic repertoire. Typically one of these programs is a “Discovery” concert, with a multi-media explanation of the music. The Orchestra presents four pops concerts including a family-oriented Holiday Pops. Three chamber orchestra programs are presented annually at BIG Arts on Sanibel Island. Orchestra concerts are also offered at the Village Church at Shell Point. The organization supports a youth orchestra program that includes a full youth symphony, a string ensemble for less-experienced players, a full Concert Orchestra for intermediate-level players and chamber ensembles for more advanced players. A string quartet and brass quintet present free educational programs in the local schools. Free Young People's concerts are presented at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. Each year the Society hosts a Young Artists Competition with the winner presented as soloist with the Orchestra.The Orchestra provides hundreds of free tickets to disadvantaged youth and $5 tickets to families through the Symphony Discovery Club program. The Symphony Society consists of more than 300 volunteers who work tirelessly in support of the orchestra and its programs.
• To connect in a meaningful way to the community and to increase and improve involvement and support for the organization with: local government; corporations and businesses; schools and colleges; other arts organizations; and individuals
• To provide ways for various Southwest Florida Symphony constituents (Board, staff, musicians, volunteers , participants and parents involved in educational projects) to work together to develop an internal culture of support for each other and for the entire organization.
• To elevate and connect with the community and our constituents through a variety of artistic activities, special events, collaborations and performances
• To achieve financial vitality through improved financial structure, enhanced organizational capacity, a full program of participation and support and increased awareness and involvement.
We celebrate the joy of music and inspire audiences with a variety of quality concerts performed by professional musicians, accessible to all. We enrich lives through our commitment to excellence, integrity, financial responsibility, community engagement and life-long learning.
