Education & Outreach
The Southwest Florida Symphony is committed to providing, supporting, and encouraging arts education in Lee, Charlotte, and Collier counties. Through a variety of innovative programs, we are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians and fostering a lifelong appreciation for music. Each year, the Symphony delivers high-quality educational opportunities designed to inspire, engage, and educate young audiences.
The Music Box: Bringing Music to the Community
Our newest initiative, The Music Box, is a mobile classroom that brings the joy of music directly to schools and community events. This “box truck” is packed with interactive experiences, including:
- Instrument exploration: Students can see and touch real instruments.
- Interactive lessons: Fun, hands-on learning about symphonic music.
- Games and giveaways: Activities like a “find the instrument” challenge on a life-sized orchestra photo and a piano-key tailgate for identifying notes.
- Live demonstrations: Professional musicians showcase the magic of their craft.
Generous grants from the Claiborne and Ned Foulds Foundation and Sam Galloway Ford have made this innovative outreach program possible, allowing us to connect with even more young people and families.
Scholarships for Young Musicians
The Symphony also supports the growth of aspiring musicians through its scholarship programs, helping students pursue their musical education and dreams. These scholarships provide financial assistance to talented youth in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Glades, and Charlotte counties.
Additional Programs for Students
- Music for Life: Engaging programs that teach students the value of music in everyday life.
- Discovery Club: An introduction to the symphony experience for curious young minds.
- Student Rush Tickets: Affordable access to live symphonic performances for students of all ages.
The Southwest Florida Symphony’s dedication to arts education creates opportunities for young people to build confidence, critical thinking skills, and a deep appreciation for music. For more information on any of our educational programs, call the Symphony Offices at (239) 418-0996
